Anna Maria Island, Florida - What to expect

Anna Maria Island is located on the Gulf of Mexico near Bradenton, Florida just north of Sarasota. It is known as a small resort town with many beaches on its coast. There are so many public beaches along the coast that it is impossible to count them all. The beaches are beautiful white sugar sand. The water is a pretty blue color with an emerald green hue. Anna Maria Island also has many little shops and is bike friendly. Holmes Beach is just south of Anna Maria Island if you wanted to check that out as well.

Where We Stayed: Frog Creek RV Resort and Campground

Frog Creek RV Resort and Campground is located in Palmetto, Florida. We absolutely loved this park. It was very clean and well kept with lots of pretty Spanish Moss trees and flowers. The grounds were very nice, offering guests many amenities. There is a huge deck with a nice seating area overlooking Frog Creek. They have kayaks and canoes that you can use to go down the river if you would like to go exploring the creek. There is also a barbeque and bar area that looked like it would be a lot of fun for a group of people. They also have a nice pool and laundry facilities. The workers were very nice and polite. I highly recommend staying at this place. You will not be disappointed with the star treatment you get at Frog Creek.

Places We Visited

1. Anna Maria Island City Pier

The Anna Maria City Pier is a hot spot in the area. There is fishing allowed off the pier and there is a fishing shop if you need some fishing essentials. There is also an outdoor restaurant. Across from the beaches there are little unique shops if you are looking for something different.

2. Shopping

Of course I have to mention shopping. It wouldn’t be fun if I didn’t. There are a lot of cute one of a kind little shops on Anna Maria Island. Our favorite shop was Island Fresh. The owner Sue was very nice and welcoming. She has been living there since she was a child. Shane bought his mom an Anna Maria sweater and I bought my mom some comfortable leggings that felt like t-shirt material. She loves them by the way.

3. The local beaches

There is a long stretch of beaches on Anna Maria Island with many public accesses. In fact, we saw so many public beach areas that we lost count. There are many to choose from to spend your day. The sand is beautiful in this area. The water is gorgeous with the ocean blue color with a light green hue.

Where We Ate

City Pier Grill

While we were visiting the pier, we stopped by the City Pier Grill to grab a light lunch. We each ordered the wedge salad. If you have never tried one, I suggest you do. It is delicious with the bleu cheese and bacon! They have a window that you order from and a pickup window for when your food is ready. You have to eat outside but there is plenty of seating on the pier.
