Camping on Flagler Beach, Florida- What To Expect

Flagler Beach, Florida is conveniently located on the Atlantic coast between St. Augustine and Daytona Beach. The beach has sand that is bronze in color due to it being mixed with coquina limestone made of tiny shell fragments of coquina clams. Flagler Beach has a retro beach look and feel. There are many public beach spots along the coast that you can park easily and within walking distance. There is a very nice public pier that offers fishing with bait and tackle, stunning views, and dining. The parking was a bit tricky at the pier since there are only so many spots for so many cars. There are plenty of places to choose from to eat or drink.

Where We Stayed: Beverly Beach Camptown RV Resort

Beverly Beach Camptown RV Resort is located right on the Atlantic Ocean. This RV Park has spots right on the beach. We did get lucky and reserved a spot just in time right on the beach. You could hear the waves of the ocean crashing all day and night. It was great for sleeping. Honestly, this was the best RV park to stay at if you want to literally be right on the beach. I don’t think we could have gotten any closer to the ocean. The park features a store at the entrance where you check in that sells party store items. They even sell beer and ice. The park itself was concrete like a parking lot with each space marked. It did cut back on the dirt coming in and out of the camper. That was a plus.

Places we visited

1. Flagler Beach

The waves on the Atlantic Ocean in this part of Florida are huge and crash down with a vengeance when they hit land. The waves were so big that it almost looked like we could surf them. The sand on the beaches is brown in color and is made up of tiny shell fragments. Swimming was a bit difficult since the waves do crash down on you. But we had a good time laughing at each other getting thrown around by the waves. It felt good to tap into that inner child again and just let loose.

2. Daytona Beach

If you are in the area, of course you have to go to the world famous Daytona Beach! You can actually drive on the beach here. How cool is that? They have a nice boardwalk that has plenty to do there such as an arcade, entertainment, and many food or drinks options. There is a large shopping area with many souvenir and t-shirt shops. Unfortunately, we went here on a Saturday evening so we got stuck in a traffic jam on the A1A through the city. Daytona Beach is definitely a lively hot spot in Florida.

3. A1A Fisheries

We were in search of a fresh seafood market in the area to find some seafood to make on our Blackstone grill. We looked on Yelp to see if there were any options and we lucked out. We found A1A Fisheries in Palm Coast in between Flagler Beach and Daytona Beach. If you love seafood, this is the place to go. The place looks very unique with the funky outside décor. The first thing we noticed when we first came in was the lady behind the counter was very nice and friendly. She was very kind in helping us make the best selections. She was explaining to us how they have their own fishing boats that come in and out all day with fresh fish. They cut up the fish right away and serve it fresh to their customers. I don’t think fish gets any fresher than that. Also, the prices were very reasonable. We ate the shrimp. Amazing! We ate the red snapper. Awesome! We tried the lobster. They were not as sweet as the Maine lobster. We also heard the smaller lobsters taste sweeter. It was our fault for getting the larger ones.

Where We Ate

1. Java Joint Beachside Grill

Located in the heart of Flagler Beach, they serve breakfast and lunch. This was the best coffee we had in Florida. We were going to order some breakfast but people were lined up out the door. There was one waitress and one cook due to the pandemic. We felt bad for them so we decided to order a couple of coffees to go and cook breakfast back at camp. The menu looked great with great choices for breakfast such as one of my personal favorites, eggs Benedict. They also had some great choices for lunch. There are quite a few salad and sandwich choices. If you happen to have your dog with you, the second floor is dog friendly.

2. Salty Farms Seafood Restaurant and Market

This restaurant is located in Ormond Beach just south of Flagler Beach and north of Daytona Beach. We were both dying to try some fresh seafood since we hit the Florida Georgia line. The “Fresh Local Seafood Market” sign out front caught our eye. Okay so let me just say both Shane and I are very understanding when it comes to having to wait for service. We are both extra understanding with the shortage of workers happening right now. There was one waiter and one cook to service the entire restaurant. But luckily they weren’t overly packed since it was late in the evening. We decided to sit outside on the patio and have a few beers while we waited for over an hour for our food to arrive. We both ordered the jumbo shrimp with the mild seasoning, fingerling potatoes, and green beans. I’m not sure what happened but they put the Herbs De Provence seasoning on my shrimp and potatoes. Unfortunately the taste of lavender overwhelmed the entire dish. I had to order another beer to try to mask the taste.
