/  The Kelly’s Hit the Road

Hi, we are the Kelly’s! Thank you for stopping by.

Let me just start by saying, 2020.. Wow! What a crazy year, huh? Just like everyone else, we did get tired of being stuck at home for months on end. We had discussed how we were both tired of going on vacations and having to stay in hotels. They can be costly if you are staying for an extended period of time. And not to mention, do you ever really get comfortable in those places? By the time you check in, relax and go to sleep, it’s time to check out. We discussed looking into buying a used RV since neither one of us have ever owned a travel trailer. We come from tent camping so we really didn’t know what we were doing.

So one late August day last year, we decided we were going to go up to the local General RV dealer just to take a “look” at what they have in stock. Much to our surprise, quite a few other people seemed to have the same idea we had. General RV did not have many new or used RV’s on their lot. So here we are with a 2021 Coachmen Freedom Express Ultra Lite.

We are currently on a trip to South Carolina to spend a week near Lake Marion. After a week in South Carolina, our next destination is Florida. We are traveling down the Atlantic coast, stopping in Key West for awhile and then heading back up the Gulf coast to our homeland. We can’t wait to share our adventures with you! Keep checking back as we continue to update our blog with new content and exciting places to visit.

Just passed you on southbound I-77 in NC. We read your url wrong and thought someone had a great sense of humor with a blog site called “The Kelly $hit the Road dot com”. I think we’re a little slow today, but after a good laugh we realized it’s “The Kellys Hit The Road”. Enjoy your travels. Hope that was good for a quick chuckle.

That is Great! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.

Funny thing is, when we were searching for a domain name to post our trips to we typed in thekellyshittheroad.com and laughed for the exact same reason. We thought what better way to get a bit of attention to the website?

      Have a safe journey!

If Kelly $hit the road you don’t gotta be so formal and put “the” infront of it, we no what you mean, those gas station bathrooms are awlful!

We followed you all the way to the edge of the mountain and I thought Trisha was going to drop the phone over the edge! It was like reliving the Blair Witch Project! LOL …. actually, we are just following your adventures on FB and wish we could be so lucky to travel to your destinations as I know they will be great! Be safe — we will be watching you from afar. We are going up to visit with Buster Brown this weekend. Ps… love the idea of this page and your bumper sticker —- I read it wrong too!

Love your website! It really had us guessing! We’re new at camping, and you’re the first rig we saw on the road. We would love to hear about any tips, or equipment, or supplies you might recommend for a trip like ours; I’m sure we forgot something! Maybe you and others could chime in with your top 10 “must have” equipment or supplies. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello Erik, thanks for visiting the website and taking the time to comment.

We are new to camping as well and we are heading out on our first big trip. Trisha and I prepared for months to make sure we did not forget anything. But of course, we forgot a few important things. So far the biggest bummer is the griddle mount for the side of our camper!

One tip we found real helpful is to pre-package individual meals ahead of time to make cooking less of a chore and easier to clean up leaving more time for the relaxing stuff.

Keep following us, we will be adding more tips and hope to hear things you learn along the way as well!

It’s too bad we didn’t meet you guys earlier! We really enjoyed talking with you about RVing and your experiences. Thank you for the tips too! I hope you enjoyed your water excursions. I’m sure that was amazing! Enjoy Key West! We absolutely loved it. Can’t wait to go back!

Saw you two traveling North in Bradenton (lovely traffic). We also bought our first travel trailer 2021 Cherokee Alpha Wolf 26RB-L in November 2020 and absolutely love it. We have lost count of all the places we have traveled to. We have laid out a five year plan to become full timers and travel the country. Love your page and hope to see you around someday.

There was ALOT of traffic in that area. It took us a long time to get to our destination, Frog Creek RV park in Palmetto. That is a really nice travel trailer you bought. I looked it up out of curiosity. We were a bit nervous about going too big for the first one. And I think that is awesome you have traveled to so many places! I am curious about some of the places you have been and recommend. I would love to become a full timer and travel the country. Sounds like the perfect life! Thank you for commenting and we hope to see you around someday.

Passed you yesterday Southbound I-75 about mid-Michigan. We were heading home from a cold, but enjoyable weekend on Mackinac Island. Saw your URL and had to look it up. Like everyone else, I thought it was hilarious.
I enjoyed reading your story. We’ve considered an RV or trailer several times, but it often comes down to not having a space to store it. Maybe someday, but not yet.
